Very, very fine dining ($$$$$) 04/27/2008
Just remembered that some people come to San Francisco and the Bay Area just for the food and that I should add a couple notable destinations for those ready for a true dining event. The most notable of all in the Bay Area is the French Laundry in Yountville (1.5 to 2 hour drive in wine country). Here in San Francisco (and not including Zazzie and Eos on Cole Street), we recommend Aqua (California Street), Boulevard (end of Market, downtown) and Michael Minna (Fisherman's wharf). There are others, but if you want a complete dining experience, these three will deliver. Reservations are a must (months in advance for French Laundry and Minna). You have to try Arizmendi Bakery 04/27/2008
Located in the Inner Sunset on 9th between Irving and Judah, this is a co-op bakery. You have to go in the morning and try any of their baked goods but if you want a suggestion, you could enjoy the pecan rolls, the coffee cake, or the banana muffins. The coffee is also very good. You can sit at the bakery inside or out and you can also walk down to the Botanical Gardens in Golden Gate Park (our preference). Your kids will enjoy the Randall Museum 04/27/2008
We love the live performances put on by the Buddy Club. The exhibits are also terrific. This is very close to the house - either a long walk or a short ride. Kids' Symphony 04/27/2008
The symphony also caters to kids - and the kids really love it. Check out the schedule of events. San Francisco Symphony link 04/27/2008
Here it is. A cab or limo ride takes about 10 minutes. The N Judah also stops close by (it is the Civic Center stop). This is off Van Ness. Playgrounds for Kids 04/27/2008
Two tops picks close by are (in order of proximity): Cable Car Info 04/27/2008
DeSoto - 415-970-1300 The N Judah line is 3 blocks from the house 04/27/2008
This is your ticket either out to the ocean (Ocean Beach), to Union Square (connect to cable cars and Fisherman's Wharf), to downtown and the baseball stadium where the San Francisco Giants play (and sometimes concerts are held there as well). Bike Rentals - A great way to get around (particularly Golden Gate Park and the Golden Gate Bridge) 04/27/2008
There are a couple bike rental places close to the house. This is a wonderful way to tour Golden Gate Park. You could also bike through the Presidio and out across Golden Gate Bridge if you are up for a longer bike trip. |
